Transaction status
After you submit a payment for Harness Subscription Units (HSUs), Harness shows the transaction status while its payment provider verifies the charge. Use this page to interpret each state and to recover if a payment does not complete.
Before you begin
- A submitted purchase: Go to Purchase HSUs to start checkout.
- Access to your inbox: The payment provider sends a payment confirmation to the email address on your account.
Transaction states
| State | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Verifying | Harness submitted the payment and the payment provider is verifying it. Verification usually completes in a few seconds. | Keep the page open and wait for the status to resolve. Do not submit the payment again. |
| Succeeded | The payment provider accepted the charge and Harness credited the HSUs to your account. | Confirm the new balance on the Subscriptions page and retain the payment confirmation. |
| Failed | The payment provider did not accept the charge, so no HSUs were credited. | Wait 30 minutes, correct your card details, then start checkout again. |
A status that does not resolve is not the same as a failed payment. Check the Subscriptions page for your balance before you attempt a second purchase, so you do not pay twice.
Verify a completed purchase
Harness confirms a successful purchase in several places.
The checkout complete page appears as soon as the transaction resolves and shows the following:
- The number of HSUs purchased
- The amount charged
- Your new plan and resulting HSU balance
- Your contract renewal date
Record the renewal date. Additional purchases within the term are coterminous with it, so it governs when your contract ends rather than the date of any later purchase.
The payment provider also sends a payment confirmation that records the charge.
To verify the purchase against your account:
- Navigate to Account Settings.
- Select Subscriptions.
- Confirm that your HSU balance includes the purchased units and that the plan shows Essentials.
If the balance is unchanged and no payment confirmation arrives, contact Harness Support. Go to Invoices and refunds to review your transaction history.
If a payment does not complete
When a transaction fails, Harness blocks further payment attempts on your account for 30 minutes. The block protects your card against repeated declines.
To recover from a failed transaction:
- Wait for the 30 minute block to clear.
- Confirm your card number, expiry date, security code, and billing details.
- Confirm with your card issuer that the charge is permitted, including online and international charges if they apply.
- Start checkout again. Go to Purchase HSUs for the steps.
If a second attempt fails, contact Harness Support rather than continuing to retry. Include the approximate time of each attempt and the HSU quantity you selected.
The 30 minute block applies to checkout attempts. It is separate from the automatic retries that the payment provider makes against an unpaid invoice. Go to Invoices and refunds to review invoice collection.
Troubleshooting
My Harness HSU payment is stuck on verifying and does not resolve
Verification usually completes in a few seconds. Keep the page open rather than submitting the payment again, then check the Subscriptions page for your balance. Contact Harness Support if the status does not resolve and no charge appears.
My card was charged for Harness HSUs but my balance did not increase
Refresh the Subscriptions page first, because the balance updates within seconds of a successful payment. If the balance is still unchanged, contact Harness Support with the payment confirmation from the payment provider.
I need a record of a past HSU purchase in Harness
Navigate to Account Settings, then select Billing to view your transaction history, which lists past purchases with the HSU quantity and the amount charged. The payment provider also sends a payment confirmation for each charge.
Next steps
Once the transaction succeeds, your capacity is available immediately.
- Go to Monitor HSU usage and alerts to track consumption against your new balance.
- Go to Invoices and refunds to review invoice collection and refunds.
- Go to Self-serve purchase to review the limitations that apply today.
