Invoices and refunds
Harness collects payment for HSU purchases through a payment provider. This page explains how Harness retries a payment that does not succeed, what an unpaid invoice means for your account, and how refunds are issued.
Before you begin
- A completed or attempted purchase: Go to Purchase HSUs for the checkout steps.
- Access to the email address on your account: Harness and the payment provider send confirmations and payment notices there.
How payment retries work
If payment for an invoice does not succeed, Harness does not fail the invoice on the first attempt. The payment provider retries the charge automatically.
Retries follow the payment provider's standard schedule, approximately three attempts over about three days. Treat these figures as current behavior rather than a contractual commitment.
You do not need to take action while retries are in progress. Act only if every retry fails.
Retries apply to invoice collection. A separate 30 minute block applies to a failed checkout transaction. Go to Transaction status to review checkout outcomes.
What happens if an invoice goes unpaid
An unpaid invoice remains against your account. Downgrading to the Free plan does not clear it.
You must settle any unpaid invoice before you can upgrade to Essentials again. Harness does not wipe an outstanding balance when an account moves to the Free plan, so an unpaid invoice blocks a later upgrade until it is paid.
To settle an unpaid invoice, update your payment details or contact Harness Support with the invoice reference from your payment notice.
View your transaction history
Harness records completed purchases on the transaction history page in your account.
- Navigate to Account Settings.
- Select Billing.
The page lists past HSU purchases with details for each transaction, including the HSU quantity and the amount charged. Use it to identify a purchase when you contact Support, or to reconcile a charge against your card statement.
How refunds are issued
Harness issues refunds to the credit card used for the original purchase. Refunds are not issued as HSU credit and are not applied against a future invoice.
To request a refund, contact Harness Support. Include the following:
- The email address on your account
- The transaction from your transaction history page, or the approximate purchase date
- The HSU quantity purchased
Troubleshooting
My Harness invoice payment failed and I do not know whether it will be attempted again
The payment provider retries a failed charge automatically, typically around three attempts across roughly three days. Wait for the retries to complete before taking action, then update your card details if every attempt fails.
I cannot upgrade my Harness account to Essentials again after downgrading to Free
An unpaid invoice blocks a later upgrade, because moving to the Free plan does not clear an outstanding balance. Settle the invoice, then retry the upgrade. Contact Harness Support with the invoice reference if you cannot locate it.
I need to request a refund for a Harness HSU purchase
Refunds are issued to the credit card used for the original purchase, not as HSU credit. Contact Harness Support with the account email address, the approximate purchase date, and the HSU quantity.
